We recently held the qualifier of Japan for the World Cosplay Summit 2024 at “Hime CON 2024” in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, on 23rd – 24th March 2024! (The kanji 姫 “hime” means “princess” in Japanese language.)

As the organizer for WCS🇯🇵, I’ve been responsible for the entire selection process for the WCS Japanese representative since 2023. I’m finally able to take a breather after successfully concluding the event HIMECON and the follow-up report meeting with the sponsors for the event.

Having never lived outside the Kanto region in Japan, my knowledge of Himeji was limited such as “the station with the white castle between Kobe and Okayama.” (Apologies!)

But!

Since October last year, I’ve visited Himeji 5-6 times for meetings and locations’ checking, and wow, was I surprised. Beyond the famous white castle (Himeji Castle), which is one of Japan’s first World Heritage Sites alongside Horyu-ji Temple in Nara, there are numerous incredible attractions. The prominence of Himeji Castle overshadows these other spots, which is a real shame. If we properly highlight and explain these other attractions, I’m sure many people would visit Himeji for reasons beyond the castle.

The WCS Japan qualifier for the year 2025 is already set to be held at HIMECON2025, scheduled for 19th – 20th April 2025.
